Tara Gleason is the new manager of the Tillman Media Center. She
began her library career as a Circulation student worker with Western Carolina
University in 2004. Upon completing her undergraduate degree in Psychology in
2008, she accepted an assistant supervisor position with the department and
immediately took on the task of co-creating an orientation and training
program for Hunter Library student workers. She became passionate about
researching materials and software, developing procedures, programs and
manuals, and facilitating the orientation and training of the student
employees, so in January 2009, she began a master’s degree program in Human
Resources specializing in training and development. During her graduate
program, she gained experience in classroom instruction and also began
assisting the Business Officer of Hunter Library with human resources and other
administrative duties. She worked in human resources for the past year, but
greatly missed the academic library setting.
Tara is thrilled to be working in the Tillman Media Center. She
has been creating a long list of tasks that she is eager to accomplish. One of
her main concerns is the security of the collection and establishing thorough
circulation policies. She acknowledges collection development and maintenance,
space planning and outreach/marketing activities are going to be primary goals
as well. Tara is excited to have the support of both the Library and the
School of Education so that the Tillman Media Center can continue to grow
into a vital service point.
In her spare time, Tara enjoys being outdoors, reading, writing
& creating all sorts of arts and crafts, but most of her time is spent with
her wonderful husband, pre-teen step-son and toddler daughter.
